ANNIE -THE STORY OF ELECTRONICS

For starters can I just say that I loved this video more than any of the others. It was clear and concise, the illustrations were really effective in delivering a strong message.

I completely agree with what Annie is saying. Most people do not understand what happens from say the production of mining to when it is used in a product. There is a fundamental flaw in the design product process of electronic goods. Big manufactures and companies do not think of the waste, they design a product for use of about 18 months to 2 years and then expect it to break down and then the consumer will buy another one of their products (pretty stupid when I think about it). I am a mac enthusiast and even I know that Mac designs its products to slowly breakdown after 2 years.

What needs to happen is we need to make new technologies that are much more sustainable and that can LEGITIMTALEY be recycled. If big executive companies want to make more money, they need to design more accessories and things like that that consumers can add to their perfectly working computer. Only once they develop a much much better product to the one they have already designed should someone need to buy a new computer.
A perfect example is the the apple iPhone. Apple release a new brand of phone atleast once a year, each time there are only small developments on the next one. Why not instead of making a change to it every year, make it every 4 years and the change even bigger and better. This will generate the same amount of profit and hype the company is looking for. Although this does not help the e-dump, I am writing this with the idea of sustainable materials. They need to be disposed of in a healthy and safe wayof in a healthy and safe way
